Choosing a control method for LED lighting
Lighting control is used to adjust, for example, brightness, colour temperature, colours and lighting scenes. The right solution depends on the luminaires, drivers, cabling and whether you want local control or smart home automation.
DALI, TRIAC, RF and Zigbee
DALI is a digital lighting control system used especially in larger and professional installations. TRIAC phase-cut dimming only suits luminaires and drivers that support it. RF control often enables wireless local use without a home network. Zigbee suits many smart home systems, but compatibility must be checked separately for each device and system.
Dimming an LED strip
A 24 V constant voltage strip is often controlled with a suitable PWM dimmer. Single-colour, CCT, RGB and RGBW strips require a different number of control channels. Check the strip's voltage, current, power and the controller's output type before ordering.
Smart home and control compatibility
Matter, Zigbee and other smart home technologies are not the same thing. Make sure of compatibility with the hub, bridge or other control system you are using. A traditional wall switch can also often be combined with a smart lighting solution.

Frequently asked questions
Can every LED light be dimmed?
No. Dimming must be supported by the luminaire or driver.
Is a hub needed for Zigbee control?
It depends on the device and the way you want to use it. Remote control and automations often require a compatible control system.
Does a DALI controller work with a standard 24 V strip?
Not directly. A DALI-controlled driver or controller suitable for the strip is needed in between.
Which control suits an RGBW strip?
Choose an RGBW-compatible controller that has the channels the strip requires and sufficient load capacity.
